Best voice of customer tools, compared by method and price
updated 18 October 2026 · facts about other products checked 18 October 2026 from their own pages
The best voice of customer tool depends on whose voice you need. For your current customers, use a survey or feedback widget such as Typeform or Contentsquare's Voice of Customer (the product Hotjar now sits under). If you already have calls, tickets and interviews to make sense of, use Dovetail. To hear people who are not yet customers in their own words, read public conversations with a tool such as Reddinbox, PainOnSocial or HearBuyers. Large programs that want survey, interview and social data under one contract go to Qualtrics, UserTesting or Brandwatch.
The list is ordered by fit for a small team that wants to start this week. Tools with a free or low entry plan come first and quote-only enterprise platforms come last. Each fact comes from the vendor's own pages, read on 17 or 18 October 2026. For the method behind these tools, see our guides on customer research methods and customer pain points.

Typeform
Typeform is a form and survey builder. Its pages list AI-assisted form creation, conditional logic, webhooks and integrations, and automations for follow-up. It suits a team that wants to ask customers a few questions after purchase, cancellation or onboarding.
It is easy to use and has a free plan. The free plan caps responses each month, but the page text we read does not give the number. Paid plans, billed monthly, are Basic at $39 (100 responses, 1 user), Plus at $79 (1,000 responses, 3 users) and Business at $129 (10,000 responses, 5 users). Yearly billing lowers each figure.
Its limit is that it only collects answers from people who agree to fill in a form. It does not watch public conversations. Checked 18 October 2026.
Contentsquare (formerly Hotjar)
Hotjar's home page now reads "Hotjar is now Contentsquare" and says new accounts are created on Contentsquare. The product line covers session replay, heatmaps and surveys, plus a Voice of Customer module for on-site feedback. It suits a product or growth team that wants to hear from visitors on its own site.
The Voice of Customer plan is free at $0, with 100 monthly responses and 1 month of response access. Growth is listed "From $79 / month" for 500 to 100k monthly responses. Pro is custom.
Its limit is that it measures behaviour and feedback on your own site or app, not conversations happening elsewhere. Checked 18 October 2026.
Dovetail
Dovetail calls itself a customer intelligence platform. It works on feedback you already have: calls, recordings, documents, surveys and tickets. It offers agents, channels that classify incoming feedback, and docs drafted from the evidence. It suits a research or product team sitting on a pile of interviews that need sorting.
The free plan needs no card and covers one channel, one project and basic AI summaries. Enterprise pricing is custom, and the pricing page lists no other paid plan.
The limit is that the pages we read describe analyzing feedback you bring to it. They don't describe watching Reddit or X for new conversations. Checked 18 October 2026.
Reddinbox
Reddinbox is an AI research agent that searches Reddit, X, Bluesky, Hacker News and Facebook. You ask it a research question, and it returns pains, questions, trending topics and vocabulary grouped by theme, each with a link to its source. It suits a founder or marketer doing audience research before writing copy or building a feature.
Its strongest feature is the structured Market Brief, where every point has a link behind it. Starter costs $39 a month (about 100 agent conversations and 3 Market Briefs) and Pro costs $99 a month (about 266 conversations and 5 briefs). There is a free trial that needs no card, but no permanent free tier.
The limit is that it's a research tool, and its listed features don't include reply drafting or lead alerts. Checked 17 October 2026.
PainOnSocial
PainOnSocial finds customer pain points in Reddit communities. You pick the communities, an AI analyzes recent discussions over 7, 30 or 90 days, and it ranks pain points by frequency and intensity, with quotes and Reddit links. It suits solo founders validating an idea.
The ranking by frequency and intensity is the main reason to use it. Starter costs $19 a month after a one-week free trial and includes 20 scans a month, with 2 subreddits per scan. Professional costs $49 a month for 300 scans and PDF reports.
It covers Reddit only, and the listed plans include no lead alerts or reply drafting. Checked 17 October 2026.
HearBuyers (ours)
HearBuyers reads public posts on X and Reddit, scores each from 0 to 100 for buying intent, and highlights the exact sentence behind the score. That sentence is what voice of customer work needs, because it shows how a buyer words the problem before choosing a product. A person approves every reply and posts it.
It suits a small team that wants language and leads from the same posts. It is not a survey tool and doesn't analyze your own calls or tickets. It's free for 14 days with no card, then from $19 a month. Reddit's public data access changes between 31 October 2026 and March 2027, so check coverage before relying on it. See how it works and buying signals examples.
UserTesting
UserTesting recruits people from its own panel for unmoderated tests and moderated conversations, and adds AI summaries, sentiment analysis and transcripts. It suits larger teams that need to watch someone use a product or answer questions live.
Its participant panel is the main difference. The home page claims 7M+ authenticated participants, a figure the vendor gives itself. Pricing isn't published. Every edition (Advanced, Ultimate and Ultimate+) says "Request pricing", and the FAQ says the price depends on users, types and features.
The limit is that it recruits and interviews participants instead of watching public conversations. Checked 18 October 2026.
Qualtrics
Qualtrics sells an experience management platform for customer experience, employee experience and market research. On the customer side it offers surveys, website and app feedback, contact center analytics and online reputation management. It suits large organizations that run formal programs.
Breadth is the main strength. Qualtrics doesn't list a price: the pricing page has "Request Pricing" forms and says customer experience products are priced by interactions. It doesn't mention a free tier or a trial.
It only analyzes feedback the organization collects itself. None of the pages we read describe monitoring Reddit or X. Checked 18 October 2026.
Brandwatch
Brandwatch's Consumer Intelligence product lets researchers search an archive of consumer opinion, segment audiences and conversations in dashboards, and set up automated reports and alerts. Its pages list Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Reddit and LinkedIn among its sources. It suits analysts at enterprise brands.
Archive search for researchers is where it's strongest. There's no listed price, just a "Schedule your free demo" form, and the site pitches "Brandwatch + Cision" to global enterprises.
Because no prices are listed, you can't compare it with other tools until you've had a sales call. Checked 17 October 2026. See Brand24 vs Brandwatch.
How to choose
- Pick the voice before the tool. For current customers, use Typeform or Contentsquare. For existing recordings and tickets, use Dovetail. For strangers who have the problem, use a public conversation tool.
- Match your volume to how each tool prices. Survey tools charge by responses, research agents by conversations, and enterprise suites by interactions or by quote.
- Keep the quote. Whatever you use, store the customer's exact words next to the theme, because a paraphrase loses the wording that makes copy convert.
- Check the source rules. Public-post tools depend on platform data access, and Reddit's is changing.
Once customers are happy, the next step is customer advocacy, which means getting them to speak for you in public.
Frequently asked questions
What are voice of customer tools?
They collect, organize or analyze what customers and prospects say about a product, whether that comes from surveys, interviews, support data or public posts. See our voice of customer glossary entry.
Which voice of customer tools are free?
Typeform, Contentsquare's Voice of Customer module and Dovetail each list a limited free plan on their own pages. Reddinbox and PainOnSocial offer free trials, not free plans.
Can I use Reddit and X for voice of customer research?
Yes. Public posts show how buyers describe a problem before they pick a tool, and Reddinbox, PainOnSocial and HearBuyers all read them. A public post is still someone's own words, so remind your team of that and avoid quoting identifiable people.
Is voice of customer the same as social listening?
No. Social listening is one input, and voice of customer also includes surveys, calls and tickets. Our social listening list covers that one input.
Next step: pull 20 recent customer comments or public posts, tag each one by the problem it names, and see which tool you would need to do that every week.
