X asks you to log in before it shows search results. Save the search in X to run it again later.

How to use it

  1. Put the words people would use in all of these words or exact phrase. Phrases are stricter and cut noise fast.
  2. Use any of these for different ways of saying the same thing: "alternative to, switching from, replacement for".
  3. Add none of these words to drop the usual noise: "hiring", "job", "giveaway".
  4. Narrow by accounts (posts from, replying to or mentioning someone), dates, or minimum replies and likes.
  5. Tick leave out reposts almost every time. Tick only posts with a question when you're looking for people who want help.

The operators it uses

X's help page documents the advanced search form, and its developer documentation describes query syntax. Some of the operators below, such as since:, until:, min_faves: and filter:, are widely used but not spelled out in X's own help pages. X also changes how search behaves from time to time, so run the search once on X before you rely on it.

Questions?

The full list, with notes on what still works on X today, is in the X search operators cheat sheet.

Searches that find buyers

The recipe pages open this builder pre-filled for common buying signals: asking for an alternative, asking for a recommendation, complaining about a tool, switching, and complaining about a price increase.

Limits

X makes you log in before it shows search results, and it doesn't send alerts for saved searches. If you want the matches brought to you and filtered for buying intent, use X keyword alerts in HearBuyers.

If you remember advanced search on Twitter, this is the same thing. X kept the operators after the rename, and the builder writes them into one query.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Twitter advanced search?

On the web, run any search on X, open the filter menu next to the results and choose advanced search. This builder does the same job in one form and shows you the operators it uses.

Can I search X by date?

Yes. Use the from and to dates, which become since: and until:. The old tweets recipe is already set up for this.

Is this builder free?

Yes. It runs in your browser and you don't need an account.
