Reddit search builder
updated 17 October 2026
Type a phrase, choose posts or comments, and narrow by subreddit, author and time. The builder gives you Reddit's own search link plus the same search for Google. Use it to find people asking for what you sell, or an old thread you remember but can't find.

Searching comments
Most buying questions on Reddit sit in comments under someone else's post: "we switched to X last year, anyone tried Y?" To search them, pick comments as the search type. Reddit's comment search matches words, not exact phrases, so short, distinctive phrases work best.
Operators Reddit search understands
| Operator | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
"..." | Phrase | "looking for a bookkeeper" |
OR | Either word | (recommend OR alternative) |
-word | Leave a word out | -hiring |
title: | Only in post titles | title:"crm" |
author: | Posts by one account | author:username |
subreddit: | One community | subreddit:smallbusiness |
When to use the Google version
Google often finds older threads that Reddit's own search ranks poorly, and it handles exact phrases better. The builder adds site:reddit.com (or site:reddit.com/r/yoursub) and an after: date that matches the time range you picked.
Searching Reddit at scale
Running searches by hand works for a handful of phrases. If you want them run every day, filtered for buying intent and sent to Slack with a reply drafted, that's Reddit monitoring in HearBuyers.
Frequently asked questions
How do I search Reddit comments?
Choose comments as the search type. On Reddit's site, that's the comments tab on the search results page.
Can I search a subreddit for a phrase?
Yes. Enter the subreddit and the phrase, and the builder limits the search to that community.
Why doesn't Reddit search find an exact phrase?
Reddit's search matches individual words and ranks results loosely. Try the Google version, which respects quotes.
