Reddit monitoring that finds buyers, not just mentions

updated 1 November 2026

Reddit monitoring means watching the communities and searches where your buyers talk, so you catch a relevant post while it's still fresh. A B2B team doesn't need every mention of its keyword. It wants the few posts each week where someone describes the problem you solve and asks what to do about it. HearBuyers watches the subreddits you choose plus Reddit search, scores each post for buying intent and sends you the ones worth answering, with a reply drafted.

At a harbor, a watchkeeper scans selected fishing nets stretched between posts while ignoring the open sea beyond.

Three ways to monitor Reddit

  1. By hand. Use Reddit's own search sorted by new, and check a few subreddits every morning. It's free, but slow and easy to forget. Our Reddit search builder writes the searches for you.
  2. Keyword alerts. A tool emails you every post that contains a word. You see more, but most of it is noise: other vendors, job posts and people sharing links.
  3. Scored monitoring. A tool reads each match and tells you who sounds ready to buy and why. HearBuyers works this way.

What Reddit says about monitoring Reddit

The main complaint from people who monitor Reddit for leads is too many alerts that don't matter. Most of them fix it by picking communities first and keywords second, and replying only where they have something useful to say.

  • Noise is the main problem. "Every time I try to monitor Reddit keywords seriously, I end up drowning in alerts that aren't actually relevant," wrote u/Emotional_Piccolo870 in r/AskMarketing, in a thread with 138 upvotes (thread).
  • Communities before keywords. Several replies in the same r/AskMarketing thread say a short list of subreddits cuts more noise than cleverer keywords do.
  • Reply selectively. "Biggest mistake I see? People responding to every alert instead of picking threads where they genuinely have something useful to add" (u/No_Hedgehog8091 in r/b2bmarketing, comment).
  • Most people start with free alerts. In the ten threads we read in full, commenters named F5Bot (which emails you keyword matches) and Reddit's own Reddit Pro more than any other tools. The F5Bot alternative page compares F5Bot with scored monitoring.

Our own numbers show where the noise comes from. On 17 and 18 October 2026 we sampled 6,507 recent posts across 41 subreddits and scored each for buying intent. About 5% read as someone looking to buy or hire, and the median community was 6%. So roughly 1 recent post in 20 comes from a buyer, and anything that forwards every post or every word match will mostly forward noise. Many threads on this topic include replies from people selling monitoring tools; we left those out. How we read these threads is on how we research Reddit.

What HearBuyers watches on Reddit

  • Posts and comments in the subreddits you choose. It suggests subreddits from your website and you edit the list.
  • Reddit search for the phrases your buyers use and the competitors they leave.
  • The last 7 days on the first scan, then on a schedule.

It doesn't claim to read every post on Reddit. Reddit is changing access to its public data between 31 October 2026 and March 2027, and any Reddit monitoring tool works from a set of communities and searches. The coverage page lists what we read today.

What a match looks like

Every post gets a score from 0 to 100, the exact sentence that shows the need, and a one-line reason. Posts at or above your threshold (70 by default) go to Slack, the daily email and the team inbox. Each comes with a reply drafted for that community, which someone on your team edits, approves and posts from their own account.

Sample post (paraphrased)ScoreWhy
"Our CRM renewal is in March and nobody likes it. What did you move to?"89A dated renewal and an open question about what to switch to
"Interesting thread on CRM trends this year"12Sharing an article, no problem stated
"Hiring an SDR, must know HubSpot"8A job post, not a buyer

Monitor Reddit without getting banned

Most subreddits limit or ban self-promotion. Before you reply, check the rules with the free subreddit rules lookup. Lead with a useful answer, and say who you are when your product comes up. The subreddit profiles summarise what each B2B community allows.
