Subreddit rules lookup
updated 17 October 2026
Enter a subreddit and the lookup shows its posted rules, flags the ones about self-promotion, links and karma, and gives you a one-line read on how strict it is about promotion. We cache rules for a week, and each result shows the date it was checked.

Reddit's rules and a subreddit's rules
Reddit has site-wide rules that apply everywhere: no spam, no harassment, no vote manipulation, no ban evasion. Each subreddit then adds its own. Those subreddit rules are what get B2B sellers removed, because most communities limit self-promotion far more tightly than Reddit does.
What to look for before you reply
- A rule on self-promotion or advertising. Some ban it outright, some allow it in a weekly thread, and some allow it if you disclose who you are.
- A rule on links. Many communities remove posts with links or only allow certain sites.
- Karma or account-age limits. New accounts are often filtered automatically, which can look like a shadowban.
- A "no vendors" or "no solicitation" rule, often added after a wave of sales pitches.
Reading the result
- Strict on promotion: answer the question without naming your product unless someone asks.
- Promotion allowed with limits: follow the conditions exactly. These are usually disclosure or a dedicated thread.
- No rule about promotion: read the pinned posts and the sidebar, and look at how replies from other vendors were received.
For B2B communities, the subreddit profiles go further: plain-language rules, what buyers ask for there, and similar communities.
Frequently asked questions
What are the rules of Reddit?
Reddit's site-wide rules cover spam, harassment, impersonation, vote manipulation and ban evasion. Every subreddit adds its own rules on top, and you can look those up here.
Can I promote my business on Reddit?
In some communities, under conditions. Many B2B subreddits ban self-promotion outside a weekly thread, so check each community's rules first.
Why was my post removed when no rule mentions it?
Moderators and automated filters also remove posts from new or low-karma accounts, posts with links, and posts that look like ads. You can check whether your account is visible with the shadowban checker.
