How to get web development clients: find people already asking

checked 18 October 2026 · 35 requests found in 100 posts judged

The warmest clients for a web developer are people who have already posted that they need one. You aren't convincing anyone they need help. You're responding to a request that already exists.

In a scan of public posts checked on 2026-10-18, we judged 100 posts and found 35 people asking for a web developer, across Reddit posts from the last 12 months and X posts from the last 30 days. Requests showed up most in r/forhire, r/WebDeveloperJobs, r/ForHireFreelance, r/websiteservices, and r/hiredev.

96Worth answering

I am building a restaurant service system that sends table requests to staff through connected devices. I need a developer to build the software layer, including notifications, an admin setup screen, live table monitoring, user accounts, stats, and backend integration. I want a written scope and milestone based or fixed price delivery.

Why: Defined requirements and engagement terms indicate an active project.

98Worth answering

I am trying to launch a web app quickly with a dashboard for tracking commitments, outcomes, deadlines, and confidence levels. I need a developer to build the application with multi user accounts and complete it as soon as possible. I have a budget and want focused delivery.

Why: Urgent timeline, budget, and clear build request suggest immediate hiring.

5Looks like a lead, isn't

I have worked in web development for many years and recently started making a game. I am looking for recommendations on a modern development pipeline, including tools and services worth adopting or avoiding. I want to learn from others before expanding my workflow.

Why: Seeking advice on tools rather than hiring development help.

What a request worth answering looks like

  • The person sounds urgent and wants to start soon.
  • They share specific details about the site, features, goals, or timeline.
  • They hint at a budget, mention payment, or ask about rates.
  • They ask for recommendations, referrals, or direct help instead of posting a vague complaint.
Bar chart of requests by community: r/forhire 4, r/WebDeveloperJobs 3, r/ForHireFreelance 2, r/websiteservices 2, r/hiredev 2.

How to reply without getting removed

  • Start by answering their question or giving useful advice.
  • Say you are a web developer and explain how you can help.
  • Keep your reply relevant to the request and avoid generic pitches.
  • Do not post links unless the person asks for them or the community allows them.
  • Follow each community's rules before commenting or sending messages.

Web development lead generation, from public requests

Lead generation for web developers usually means buying lists or running outbound. Public requests work the other way round: the buyer writes first. Of the 100 posts we judged, 35 were people asking for a web developer, and the most came from r/forhire. That is a short, warm list you can answer yourself, and HearBuyers reads for it every day. How these numbers compare with other niches is in where B2B buyers ask for help.
