How to get freelance clients: find people already asking

checked 18 October 2026 · 35 requests found in 80 posts judged

The warmest clients for a freelancer are people who already posted that they need one. You aren't convincing someone they have a problem. You're answering a request they already made.

In a scan of public posts checked on 2026-10-18, we judged 80 posts from Reddit over the last 12 months and X over the last 30 days. We found 35 people asking for a freelancer, 33 on Reddit and 2 on X. Requests showed up most in r/forhire, r/WebDeveloperJobs, r/smallbusiness, r/ForHireFreelance, and on X.

Freelance lead generation, from public requests

Lead generation for freelancers usually means buying lists or running outbound. Public requests work the other way round: the buyer writes first. Of the 80 posts we judged, 35 were people asking for a freelancer, and the most came from r/forhire. That is a short, warm list you can answer yourself, and HearBuyers reads for it every day. How these numbers compare with other niches is in where B2B buyers ask for help.
