How to get software development clients: find people already asking

checked 16 October 2026 · 13 requests found in 95 posts judged

The warmest clients for a software development agency are people who have already posted that they need a development team. We checked on 2026-10-16, scanning Reddit posts from the last 12 months and X posts from the last 30 days. Of the 95 public posts we judged, 13 came from people asking for a development team: 12 on Reddit and 1 on X.

Those posts showed up most often in r/MVCleadtest, r/Entrepreneur, r/web_design and r/forhire. You don't need to create demand here. Look for people who are already describing a project and asking for help.

95Worth answering

I need an MVP built urgently and have a budget of about $5,000. I am looking for a React Native developer to help me launch quickly.

Why: Has budget, defined technology, and urgent MVP requirement.

92Worth answering

I need a travel website built on a popular content management platform. I am looking for a developer who can start immediately.

Why: Requests a website build and wants immediate development support.

What a request worth answering looks like

  • The person sounds urgent and wants to start soon.
  • They describe the project, its goals, features or technical requirements.
  • They hint at a budget, a timeline or the scope.
  • They ask for recommendations, referrals or a development team. Skip vague discussions where nobody is asking for help.
Bar chart of requests by community: r/MVCleadtest 2, r/Entrepreneur 2, r/web_design 1, r/forhire 1.

How to reply without getting removed

  • Answer the question first, with advice that fits their project.
  • Say plainly that you run a software development agency.
  • Keep the reply about their needs rather than a sales pitch.
  • Leave links out unless the person asks for them or the community allows them.
  • Read each community's rules before you post.
12 of 13 requests were on Reddit and 1 on X.

A 20-minute weekly routine

  1. Check the communities where requests appeared for new posts asking for a development team.
  2. Read the post carefully and make sure the person is actively looking for help.
  3. Write a reply that deals with their project and explains how your agency can help.
  4. Follow up on any responses, and keep the conversation going if the person shows interest.

Software development lead generation, from public requests

Lead generation for software development agencies usually means buying lists or running outbound. Public requests work the other way round: the buyer writes first. Of the 95 posts we judged, 13 were people asking for a development team, and the most came from r/MVCleadtest. That is a short, warm list you can answer yourself, and HearBuyers reads for it every day. How these numbers compare with other niches is in where B2B buyers ask for help.
