BrandMentions alternative: when you need buyers, not mentions

facts about BrandMentions checked on 17 October 2026 from its own pages

BrandMentions is a brand monitoring tool. It watches social networks, blogs, news sites and forums for the keywords you add, runs AI sentiment analysis on what it finds, and sends alerts and reports. You might want a BrandMentions alternative because you need a list of people close to buying, not a feed of mentions. HearBuyers does that narrower job on X and Reddit: it scores each post from 0 to 100 for buying intent and drafts a reply that a person approves.

This page covers what BrandMentions does as of 17 October 2026, who it suits better, and how to move over. Facts about BrandMentions come from its home and pricing pages.

What BrandMentions does

BrandMentions describes itself as a social listening and brand monitoring tool. Its listed use cases are brand monitoring, reputation management, competitor tracking, media monitoring and business intelligence, with resellers and agencies called out too. You add keywords to a project and it collects matching mentions. The plan comparison groups sources into social networks, short-form and discussions, video platforms, communities, sites, blogs, news and forums. We couldn't tell which specific networks come with which plan, so ask before you rely on one.

Alerts arrive by email, and the site says you get a notification each time new mentions or links appear. Pro includes standard reports, Expert adds white-label reports, and the higher plans add Boolean search. The free trial lasts 7 days.

Who BrandMentions suits better

BrandMentions is the better choice for marketing and PR teams that want every public mention of a brand in one place, with sentiment and reports to show a client or a manager. Agencies running many projects will get use from the project and white-label features. It also suits teams that need web and news coverage alongside social, which HearBuyers does not offer.

Its home and pricing pages mention no buying-intent score and no reply drafting. To find buyers with it, you write your own keywords and judge the results by hand.

What to look for in a replacement

  • Your actual goal. If you track a brand for reputation, the replacement should handle reputation. If you track keywords to find leads, you need something built for leads.
  • Keyword quotas versus results. A fixed keyword count pushes you toward broad keywords, and broad keywords return noise. Look for a tool that works from how buyers describe their problem.
  • A score and the evidence. A sentiment label tells you the mood. A numeric intent score plus the sentence that triggered it tells you whether to act.
  • Help with the reply. Make sure a person stays in control before anything is published.
  • A price you can predict. Compare per-seat, per-keyword and per-match pricing against how you work.

Where HearBuyers fits, and where it doesn't

HearBuyers fits if what you use BrandMentions for most is finding people who ask for what you sell. You paste your company website, and HearBuyers infers your product summary, buyer roles, the problems those buyers describe, search phrases, competitors and subreddits. You correct whatever it got wrong. It reads public X posts and replies and Reddit posts and comments, starting with the last seven days.

Each post gets a score from 0 to 100, along with the exact sentence that shows the need and a one-line reason. Matches at or above your threshold (70 by default) get a drafted public reply, plus a DM draft on X. Someone on your team edits, approves, copies and posts it. Alerts go to Slack, a daily email digest and a team inbox with stages.

It doesn't fit if you need brand reputation reports, news and blog coverage, white-label client reports or long data retention. HearBuyers is free for 14 days with no card, then from $19 a month.

The honest case for staying

If you use BrandMentions mainly for reputation and media monitoring, it covers sources HearBuyers doesn't, and replacing it would cost you that coverage. Keep it for that work and consider HearBuyers only for the sales part.

Moving your keywords over

  1. List the BrandMentions keywords you use to find prospects, such as "alternative to" phrases or problem descriptions.
  2. Sign up for HearBuyers and paste your company website.
  3. Check the suggested search phrases and add any keywords from your list that are missing.
  4. Add competitors and the subreddits where your buyers ask questions.
  5. Set your threshold and connect Slack.
