Clay alternatives: lighter enrichment, DIY stacks, and buyers who ask
facts about Clay checked on 1 November 2026 from its own pages
Most people looking for Clay alternatives want one of three things: a cheaper way to get emails and company data, a do-it-yourself stack they control, or a different kind of signal. A single data provider such as Apollo.io or Hunter covers the first. A spreadsheet or database plus an AI model covers the second, if someone on the team can maintain it. For the third, HearBuyers finds people asking in public on Reddit and X for what you sell. That one's ours, so it gets its own section below.

What Clay does
Clay lets you build tables that enrich, research and score lists. It pulls from more than 150 data providers in a waterfall, has an AI web research agent called Claygent, tracks signals such as job changes, company news and web intent, and syncs to your CRM. It meters two things: actions and data credits.
Its plans on 1 November 2026: Free at $0 (500 actions and 100 data credits a month), Launch at $185 a month or $167 billed annually, Growth at $495 a month or $446 billed annually, and a custom Enterprise plan. Launch and Growth have a 14-day trial.
What r/gtmengineering says about cutting Clay costs
People in r/gtmengineering who looked for Clay alternatives mostly talked about enriching less rather than finding a twin. One commenter filters first: "I rarely enrich everything" (u/Difficult-Nobody7181). They narrow the list with cheap signals before running the expensive steps. Another said "a lot depends on which pieces you actually need (find companies/people, enrich, verify, sequence)" (u/macromind).
Home-built replacements came with a warning. A setup on Google Sheets and a database "works great when the person who built it is the same person using it", one reply said (u/kopunk), and it falls apart once a sales team has to use it. These are individual reports from threads read on 1 November 2026, not survey results. Several replies in those threads came from people selling their own tools, and we left those out.
Alternatives by what you need
One data provider instead of many
- [Apollo.io](/alternatives/apollo) has a contact and company database with enrichment and sequences. Free, then $49, $79 or $119 a seat a month billed annually.
- Hunter finds and verifies work emails. Free with 50 credits a month, then Starter at $34 a month billed yearly.
- Lusha focuses on verified emails and phone numbers and has a free plan. We couldn't read its current prices on 1 November 2026.
- [ZoomInfo](/alternatives/zoominfo) covers broad contact and intent data for larger teams, on quote-only pricing.
Who is visiting your website
- RB2B names people and companies visiting your site, with person-level identification in the US only. Free for companies, then $79 a month.
Do it yourself
A spreadsheet or small database, a verification service and an AI model can rebuild a narrow Clay workflow. It's cheapest when one technical person both builds and uses it. Budget for upkeep, because every provider change or broken step lands on whoever built it.
People asking in public
- HearBuyers (ours) skips the list entirely. It reads public X posts and replies and Reddit posts and comments, and surfaces the people who say they need what you sell. More below.
- Octolens monitors Reddit, X and other platforms for mentions of your brand and competitors. From $159 a month billed annually.

Where HearBuyers fits, and where it doesn't
HearBuyers isn't an enrichment tool. It won't fill in emails, titles or company data for a list you already have. It starts from the other end, with the people who posted this week that they need what you sell. You paste your company website, and HearBuyers infers your product summary, buyer roles, the problems buyers describe, search phrases, competitors and subreddits. You edit anything it got wrong.
It reads public posts, starting with the last seven days. Each post gets a score from 0 to 100, the sentence that shows the need and a one-line reason. Matches at or above your threshold (70 by default) get a drafted public reply, plus a DM draft on X. A person edits, approves, copies and posts it. It's free for 14 days with no card, then from $19 a month.

The honest case for staying
If your workflows use several providers in one table, depend on Claygent research or feed your CRM automatically, Clay does a lot in one place. Enriching fewer rows may save you more than switching.
How to choose
- Write down which Clay steps you run every week.
- Price those steps with one provider, then with a DIY setup that includes the hours to maintain it.
- Run the cheaper option on one segment for two weeks before moving everything.
