Mention alternative: when you need buyers, not media monitoring

facts about Mention checked on 17 October 2026 from its own pages

Mention is a social listening and media monitoring tool, and its home page now says Agorapulse has acquired it. If you want a Mention alternative because you're after a list of people asking for what you sell rather than broad media monitoring, HearBuyers does that narrower job on X and Reddit. It scores each post from 0 to 100 for buying intent and drafts a reply that a person approves.

This page covers what Mention does as of 17 October 2026, who it suits better, and how to move over. Facts about Mention come from its home and pricing pages. (The site is mention.com, but here the product is just "Mention".)

In a newsroom, an editor faces a wall covered with pinned feathers swirling in every direction but chooses a small basket of sealed envelopes arriving at the door.

What Mention does

Mention watches social networks, news, blogs, forums and review sites for the alerts you set. Its home page says it monitors over a billion sources in real time and keeps up to two years of data. You build an alert with a standard query builder or an advanced Boolean query of up to 2,000 characters. Notifications arrive by email or desktop push.

The pricing page lists its sources as Facebook, Instagram, X, Reddit, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube "and more", plus news, blogs, forums and more than 75 review sites such as Google, Trustpilot, Amazon and Glassdoor. Included features are sentiment, competitor benchmarking, custom reports and dashboards, share of voice, influence scoring, team assignment and roles, white-label reports, and Slack and Zapier integrations.

Its FAQ says the Publish and Respond features are being progressively deprecated, and Mention recommends Agorapulse for publishing and responding.

What changed with pricing

The pricing page shows one plan, Company, described as a complete media monitoring solution tailored to your organization's scale. On 17 October 2026 the price field read "Starting at $ per month" with no number, both in the page source and in a rendered browser, and the button said "Get a demo". We treat the price as not listed. Paying yearly gets you two free months, and the home page links a free trial that leads to an Agorapulse sign-up page. Historical data and developer access are paid add-ons, not part of the plan.

Who Mention suits better

Mention is the better fit for communications teams and agencies that need broad media monitoring, review-site coverage and reporting, and don't mind a sales conversation. If you already use Agorapulse, the acquisition may make the two a natural pairing. It also suits you if you track news and blogs alongside social.

Its pages list no buying-intent score and no reply drafting, and the Respond features are being retired.

What to look for in a replacement

  • A price you can see. When a vendor wants a demo before it will quote, weigh a transparent price against the effort of the call.
  • A clear job. Media monitoring and lead finding need different tools.
  • A per-post judgment. A score and the sentence behind it are quicker to act on than a feed.
  • Replies with a person in charge. Drafts only help if someone approves them.
  • Roadmap clarity. After an acquisition, check which features are staying.

Where HearBuyers fits, and where it doesn't

HearBuyers fits if you used Mention alerts to spot people asking for a product like yours. You paste your company website, and HearBuyers infers your product summary, buyer roles, the problems buyers describe, search phrases, competitors and subreddits. You correct whatever it got wrong. It reads public X posts and replies and Reddit posts and comments, starting with the last seven days.

Each post gets a score from 0 to 100, the sentence that shows the need, and a one-line reason. Matches at or above your threshold (70 by default) get a drafted public reply and, on X, a DM draft. A person edits, approves, copies and posts it. Alerts go to Slack, a daily email digest and a team inbox with stages.

It's the wrong fit if you need news, blog and review-site coverage, share of voice or influence scoring. HearBuyers is free for 14 days with no card, then from $19 a month.

The honest case for staying

Stay with Mention if your team relies on its review-site and news coverage, or if you plan to move to Agorapulse anyway. HearBuyers covers only the buyer-finding part.
